In music tech this week, it was all about notation software! Before we looked at free notation software, we looked at some that you have to pay for. We looked at an application called Photoscore, StaffPad and NotateMe. Photoscore and StaffPad were both very good applications, and NotateMe wasn’t bad, however it wasn’t as accurate as other messages. We had a quick look again at Soundtrap before moving on to other browser based notation software.
The first browser notation software we looked at was one called Flat – this was software that was simple and really easy to use. We also looked at NoteFlight, but I have used this many times in the past; seeing as I already knew how it worked, I focused more of my attention on working in Flat.

We also had a quick look at Dorico before moving on to Musescore – I didn’t need too much instruction about how to use this as this is the current notation software that I use. Finally, we experimented how to use Sibelius. We learnt how to export files from one notation software to another, which was very helpful, as well as how to take proper score screenshots.
